نحن نبغي المزيد من أحلى الكائنات،
كيلا تموت وردة الجمال أبداً،
فمثلما يذوي من اكتملت حياته بانقضاء السنوات،
لا بد لخَلَفِهِ الرقيق أن يحمل ذكراه؛

أما وأنت مشدود إلى ذات عينيك الوضاءتين،
تُغَذّي شعلة ضوئهما بوقود من صميم نفسك،
متناقصا من الوفرة الكامنة،
صرت عدواً لنفسك، شديد القسوة على ذاتك العذبة.

ولأنك الآن زينة الوجود النضرة
والبشير الرئيسي للربيع المزدان،
تدفن ما تنطوي عليه في برعمك الخاص
فتتلفه، أيها البخيل الحنون، باختزانك إياه.

فلتأسف لهذا العالم، أو حيثما يكون هذا الفاتك،
الذي يلتهم حق الدنيا فيما بين حياتك ومماتك.

From fairest creatures we desire increase,
That thereby beauty's rose might never die,
But as the riper should by time decease,
His tender heir might bear his memory:
But thou contracted to thine own bright eyes,
Feed'st thy light's flame with self-substantial fuel,
